Bone Grafting Preparation
Dr. Quereshy will have you start preparing for your procedure and provide you with aftercare instructions and necessary prescriptions well in advance so you are ready to go when the day of your surgery arrives.
Before and after surgery, you will be directed to discontinue taking medications and supplements that can thin the blood, such as ibuprofen, aspirin and vitamin E.
If you smoke or use other tobacco products, you will be required to quit using them before your procedure. You will also be directed to abstain from alcohol for one week before your treatment.
Bone Grafting Surgery
Bone grafting repairs implants sites with inadequate bone structure. The bone can be obtained from a tissue bank or from your own bone. Your sinuses or nerves may also interfere with the placement of implants, which may require reconstruction of the jaw with bone grafting. There are several types of bone grafting procedures, including:
- Major bone grafting
- Sinus grafting
- Ridge expansion
Your treatment will depend on how much correction is required in the area.
Bone Grafting Recovery
Recovery from bone grafting depends on the type of graft performed. Recovery time and follow-up will be explained by Dr. Quereshy in advance of your procedure. Because bone grafting is designed to help you prepare for dental implants, your final results will take shape once your dental implant surgery has been completed.
