Two weeks before and after surgery, you will be directed to discontinue taking medications and supplements that can thin the blood, such as ibuprofen, aspirin and vitamin E. Be sure to avoid chemically treating your hair with dye, bleach, perms and relaxers a week before and four weeks after the procedure.

Abstain from alcohol for one week before your facelift, and do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before. Let Dr. Quereshy know if you notice any signs of infection or illness prior to your facelift, as it is imperative you be in good health before undergoing surgery.

Dress comfortably the day of surgery, and do not wear makeup, leave-in hair products, jewelry, other metal items or contact lenses, but do bring glasses to help you read necessary paperwork.

Facelift Surgery

During facelift surgery, you will be under general or sedation anesthesia. Dr. Quereshy will place inconspicuous incisions around your ears, as well as along a portion of your hairline if needed. Excess facial skin and other tissues are removed, the underlying muscle and support structures are repositioned and tightened and sutures are used to close your incisions.

Facelift surgery typically takes 1-4 hours depending on how much correction you need and may take longer when performed along with other cosmetic procedures. Facial fat grafting, eyelid surgery and neck lift surgery are all frequently combined with facelift surgery to provide more complete rejuvenation of the face, eyes and neck.

Q-Lift Mini Facelift

Mini facelift surgery is a less invasive facelift procedure that provides minimal correction of sagging skin in the cheek and lower face area. The benefits are less downtime, smaller incisions and shorter scars, as the procedure involves only skin tightening and does not disrupt underlying muscle and tissues.

Dr. Quereshy offers the Q-Lift mini facelift procedure to patients who do not yet need a full facelift but want long-lasting correction of mild to moderate mid-face and lower face skin laxity.  

Facelift Recovery and Results

Your head will be wrapped with bandages immediately following facelift surgery, and surgical drains may be used to minimize fluid collection and swelling. Drains will be removed within 1-2 days of your facelift at the first post-operative appointment with Dr. Quereshy, and you will be allowed to bathe 24 hours after surgery, provided incisions are kept dry. Showers are acceptable immediately prior to your first appointment for suture removal, which occurs within one week of surgery.

Keep sutures clean and apply ointment to them until they are removed or dissolved, and take all prescribed antibiotics and pain medication as directed. Wear surgical garments as directed as well. No strenuous activity, including lifting or bending, and keep your head elevated for at least one week after your facelift.

Most patients resume wearing makeup within one week and return to work within 1-2 weeks. Dr. Quereshy will monitor your healing progress and advise you when it is safe to return to normal activity and strenuous activity. During your facelift recovery period, protect your incisions from sun exposure to avoid darkening your scars.

Bruising and swelling will gradually resolve over the next few weeks, and within 3-6 months, your final facelift results will begin to take shape. You will likely feel, as many patients do, that you look 10 years younger after facelift surgery.
