Juvéderm Voluma® XC Available at Visage Surgical Institute

Juvederm® Voluma™ XC logoAllergan released its newest addition to the Juvéderm line: Voluma XC, a new hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler and the first of its kind to be FDA approved for adding instant volume and lift to areas of the mid face that have lost mass or become hollow due to aging. Unlike other fillers that are mainly for improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles, Voluma is intended for more severe losses of volume, such as sunken cheeks.

Voluma has also been proven clinically to last much longer than other dermal fillers. Ninety percent of patients surveyed reported an improved satisfaction with their appearance after six months, and 74 percent were still seeing results two years after their treatment.

The difference between Voluma and traditional Juvéderm is that Voluma is intended for adding volume to the cheeks for a subtle lift whereas Juvéderm is best for the treatment of lines and wrinkles as well as non-surgical lip augmentation. Combining both treatments can provide you with the best possible results by addressing visible signs of aging in various areas of the face.

Juvéderm Treatment

Immediately prior to your Juvédermm injections, your face will be cleansed and sterilized with alcohol swabs. Dr. Quereshy will mark the injection sites around your lips, tear troughs or nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles to ensure you achieve the wrinkle correction and volume restoration you desire.

Juvéderm injections are usually only mildly uncomfortable for patients, but if requested, Dr. Quereshy will numb the treatment area with ice, topical anesthetic or local anesthetic, such as a dental block.

It typically takes 30 minutes or less to perform Juvéderm injections. Dr. Quereshy may massage the treated area to ensure the product is evenly distributed. Lip augmentation, treatment of dark under eye circles and wrinkle reduction can usually be achieved with a single treatment of 1-2 syringes of Juvederm, however touch-up treatments may be needed to achieve optimal results.

Juvéderm vs. Restylane®

Juvéderm and Restylane are similar injectable filler products made of hyaluronic acid and used to provide temporary wrinkle reduction, lip augmentation and more. However, there are slight differences between the two fillers, and each patient will react to and metabolize them differently.

Dr. Quereshy will recommend either Juvéderm or Restylane to you based on the type of treatment you desire, your unique anatomy and whether you’ve previously experienced better correction with one filler over the other.

Juvéderm Side Effects

There is some risk of side effects with Juvéderm treatment, as with all cosmetic procedures. Mild redness, bruising and swelling at injection sites may occur following treatment, however these Juvéderm side effects should resolve within a few days to two weeks. Apply ice to reduce swelling, and keep injection sites clean until they are healed to avoid redness and irritation. Additionally, avoid rubbing or touching the treated area for at least 48 hours after treatment to avoid product movement or migration.

Occasionally, small bumps or nodules may develop under the skin following Juvéderm injections, however this is side effect is rare and will resolve as the product dissipates.

Juvéderm Recovery and Results

There is no downtime or recovery period necessary after Juvéderm injections, and you will see your initial results immediately after injection. Within 1-2 weeks, swelling and other temporary side effects should resolve, and your final results will be visible. Juvéderm typically lasts 6-12 months and will eventually be absorbed by the body. When your results start to fade, repeat treatments will be needed to continue providing wrinkle reduction, dark eye circle treatment, soft tissue augmentation and lip enhancement.
