Preparing for Laser Skin Tightening

Dr. Quereshy will have you start preparing for laser skin tightening treatment and provide you with aftercare instructions and necessary prescriptions well in advance so you are comfortable and ready for your procedure when the day arrives.

Dr. Quereshy may also recommend that you begin a custom skin care regimen before laser skin tightening in order to prepare your skin for treatment.

Very little preparation is needed before laser skin tightening with an Erbium Yag fractional laser because this treatment is minimally invasive. CO2 laser skin tightening is a bit more invasive, and thus may require you to quit smoking, abstain from alcohol and quit taking certain medications that affect bleeding 1-2 weeks before treatment.

Skin tightening Without Surgery

The laser skin tightening procedure is one of the only non-surgical options available to address skin laxity of the face and neck.

Immediately before the procedure, your face will be cleansed and treated with a topical numbing cream, if needed. Depending on the type of laser skin tightening treatment you undergo, you may also be given a mild sedative beforehand.

The laser handpiece will be passed over your face and neck at the settings necessary to promote collagen remodeling and skin tightening. The total treatment time needed for laser skin tightening depends on the size of the treatment area, however full face treatment typically requires about 30 minutes to perform.

Keep in mind that 3-5 treatments with an Erbium laser may be needed to see subtle skin tightening results, whereas CO2 laser treatment produces results after one treatment.

Laser Skin Tightening Results and Recovery

Laser skin tightening performed with an Erbium Yag fractional laser requires little to no downtime, whereas laser skin tightening with a CO2 laser results in 1-2 weeks of downtime. Although the recovery period for CO2 laser skin tightening is more significant, this treatment will produce more dramatic skin tightening results.

Aftercare directions will also be dependent on the type of laser skin tightening procedure you choose, however expect more involved post-procedure care with CO2 laser skin tightening. Following any laser skin tightening treatment, be sure to avoid sun exposure as this can affect your results and damage your skin.

The skin tightening effects of laser treatment will be noticeable after your last treatment and continue to improve several months after your procedure. Final laser skin tightening results are apparent within 3-6 months.
