Radiesse®

What is Radiesse?

Developed with safety, durability, and longevity in mind, Radiesse is a dermal filler made with very tiny, smooth calcium hydoxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. These create a scaffolding effect for which your own body’s collagen grows, producing a desired long-term effect.

There is no “one size fits all” concept when it comes to your face. During your consultation, we will carefully help to select the best product and treatment for your concerns. Ohio cosmetic surgeon Dr. Faisal Quereshy recommends Radiesse injections to patients with the following cosmetic concerns:

Radiesse® - A natural look that lasts
  • Age-related facial folds
  • Skin creases
  • Wrinkles
  • Irregular facial contours
  • Withered, veiny hands
  • Weak, under-projected facial features

Radiesse Injections

When you arrive at Visage Facial Surgery for your Radiesse injections, Dr. Quereshy will have you cleanse your face to remove makeup and sterilize the treatment area with alcohol swabs. He will lightly mark the injection sites on your hands, cheeks, chin, jawline, nose, or areas with facial folds and creases to ensure you achieve the wrinkle correction, volume restoration and soft tissue augmentation you desire.

Do Radiesse injections hurt?

Radiesse injections cause only mild discomfort in most patients, however if requested, Dr. Quereshy will numb the treatment area with ice, topical anesthetic or local anesthetic, such as a dental block. It typically takes 30 minutes or less to administer Radiesse injections, and Dr. Quereshy may massage and manipulate the treated area to ensure the product is evenly distributed.

Wrinkle reduction, hand rejuvenation and contouring of the chin, cheeks, jawline and nose can usually be achieved with a single treatment of 1-2 syringes of Radiesse, however, touch-up treatments may be needed to achieve optimal results.

How is Radiesse different from Juvederm?

Radiesse and Juvederm are both used for wrinkle treatment, however, the two products are quite different. Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid, whereas Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite, a firmer substance that takes longer for the body to absorb.

Radiesse is ideal for wrinkle correction and augmenting bony facial features, but unlike Juvederm, it should not be injected superficially to correct under eye hollows, dark circles or for lip augmentation. Dr. Quereshy will recommend either Radiesse or Juvederm to you based on your cosmetic concerns and goals, your unique anatomy and whether you’ve experienced better correction with one injectable filler over the other in the past.

How should I prepare for Radiesse treatment?

Dr. Quereshy will have you start preparing for your Radiesse treatment and provide you with aftercare instructions well in advance to ensure your achieve the best possible results. If you smoke or use other tobacco products, you may be required to quit before the procedure.

Are there any side effects of Radiesse?

Radiesse side effects are uncommon, but like all cosmetic procedures, there is some risk associated with treatment. Temporary Radiesse side effects that may last a few days to two weeks include mild redness, bruising and swelling at injection sites.

Keeping injection sites clean until they are healed will help you avoid redness and irritation, and applying ice as directed will help reduce swelling. Additionally, avoid rubbing or touching the treated area for at least 48 hours after receiving Radiesse injections to avoid product movement or migration.

Small bumps or nodules may develop under the skin following Radiesse injections, however, this is a rare Radiesse side effect that can usually be prevented with good injection technique.

How long will it take before I see the results from Radiesse?

Radiesse injections require little to no downtime and produce immediate results. Within two weeks, any temporary side effects you experience will resolve, and your final Radiesse results will be visible.

How long does Radiesse last?

Radiesse is a semi-permanent filler that lasts 12-18 months in most patients. For patients who have not had injectable treatments before, other products such as Restylane or Juvederm may be more suitable. Others who are seeking a longer-lasting option may want to consider Sculptra injections.
