What is Restylane?
Restylane® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA)™. Hyaluronic acid exists in the human body and provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane® is used to correct a large variety of facial wrinkles, folds, and thinning lips.
Ohio cosmetic surgeon Dr. Faisal Quereshy recommends Restylane injections to patients with the following cosmetic concerns:
- Thin lips
- Facial wrinkles and folds
- Eye hollows and dark circles
- Facial features lacking projection
Restylane Injections
Prior to receiving Restylane injections, your face will be cleansed. Dr. Quereshy will lightly mark the injection sites around your lips, under eyes or nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles to ensure you achieve the wrinkle correction and volume restoration you desire. If necessary, Dr. Quereshy will numb the treatment area with ice, topical anesthetic or local anesthetic.
It typically takes 30 minutes or less to administer Restylane injections, and Dr. Quereshy may massage the treated area to ensure the product is correctly distributed. Lip augmentation, correction of dark eye circles and wrinkle reduction can usually be achieved with a single treatment of 1-2 syringes of Restylane, although touch-up treatments may be needed to achieve optimal results.

What is the difference between Restylane and Juvederm?
Restylane and Juvederm are very similar products. Both are made of hyaluronic acid and used to provide temporary wrinkle reduction, lip enhancement and more. However, Juvederm and Restylane are not exactly the same, and each patient will react to and metabolize the two products differently.
Dr. Quereshy will recommend either Restylane or Juvederm to you based on the area you wish to treat, your unique anatomy and whether you've experienced better correction with one injectable filler over the other in the past.
How should I prepare for my Restylane treatment?
Dr. Quereshy will have you start preparing for your Restylane injections and provide you with aftercare instructions well in advance to ensure you achieve the best possible results.
How soon will I see results from my Restylane injections?
You will see your initial Restylane results immediately after injection, and no downtime or recovery period is needed after the procedure. Within two weeks, temporary side effects should be resolved and your final Restylane results will be visible. Over the next 3-6 months, the Restylane product will be slowly absorbed by your body, and repeat treatments will be necessary to continue providing wrinkle reduction and lip enhancement.
Are there any side effects of Restylane?
Like all cosmetic procedures, Restylane injections carry some risk of side effects. Mild redness, bruising and swelling at injection sites may occur in the days following treatment, however these Restylane side effects should resolve quickly.
If these side effects occur, you can apply ice to reduce swelling. Be sure to keep injection sites clean until they are healed to avoid redness and irritation. Additionally, avoid rubbing or touching the treated area for at least 48 hours after treatment to avoid product movement or migration.
Small bumps or nodules may develop under the skin following Restylane injections, and the product may migrate from the injection sites. These side effects are quite rare and can usually be avoided with good injection technique.
