Sculptra Aesthetic
What is Sculptra?
Available at Visage Surgical Institute near Cleveland, Sculptra Aesthetic is an injectable filler, sometimes also referred to as the "liquid facelift." Sculptra works by both filling in lines and wrinkles and by stimulating the body to produce new collagen and underlying tissue, thereby creating a fuller, more youthful appearance.
Sculptra is a safe, synthetic, and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. It provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas.
Cleveland cosmetic surgeon Dr. Faisal Quereshy recommends Sculptra injections to patients who are interested in a longer lasting filler, and have the following cosmetic concerns:
- Hollow temples
- Gaunt, sunken cheeks
- Deep facial creases and folds
- Facial features lacking projection

Sculptra Injections
Your Sculptra treatment will begin with facial cleansing and sterilization with alcohol swabs. Once your skin is properly prepared, Dr. Quereshy will mark the injection sites needed to achieve the volume restoration and facial enhancement you desire. If necessary, Dr. Quereshy will numb the treatment area with ice, topical anesthetic or local anesthetic, such as a dental block.
It typically takes 30 minutes or less to administer Sculptra injections, and Dr. Quereshy may massage the treated area to ensure the product is correctly distributed. Sculptra injections are usually administered in a series of three treatments spaced 1-2 months apart to provide maximum correction.
Sculptra Side Effects
Like all cosmetic procedures, Sculptra treatment carries some risk of side effects. Mild redness, bruising and swelling at injection sites may occur in the days following treatment, however these Sculptra side effects should resolve quickly. Apply ice to reduce swelling, and keep injection sites clean until they are healed to avoid redness and irritation. Some patients develop small bumps or nodules under the skin following Sculptra injections. The product may migrate from the injection site as well. If you are concerned about side effects, please us for more details during your visit.
How should I prepare for Sculptra treatment?
Dr. Quereshy will have you start preparing for your Sculptra treatment and provide you with aftercare instructions well in advance to ensure you achieve the best possible results. If you smoke or use other tobacco products, you will be required to quit using them at least six weeks before the procedure.
Two weeks before the procedure, you will be directed to discontinue taking medications and supplements that can thin the blood, such as ibuprofen, aspirin and vitamin E. Additionally, you will be instructed to abstain from alcohol for one week before your Sculptra treatment.
Sculptra Recovery and Results
You will see your initial Sculptra results immediately after injection, and no downtime or recovery period is needed after the procedure. Your Sculptra results will continue to improve over the next several months, as your skin begins to produce more natural collagen in response to the affect of the Sculptra product. You can expect Sculptra to diminish your wrinkles, enhance your cheeks and temples and augment your other facial contours for 18-24 months before repeat Sculptra treatment is needed.
