Neck Liposuction

Excess fat around the face and neck can be extremely difficult to get rid of, even when you’re exercising and eating right. Neck liposuction is a great and effective way to get rid of a double chin and reduce excess fat deposits from around your neck area. Using a thin tube called a cannula, Dr. Faisal Quereshy can perform liposuction to remove unwanted fat from the neck, chin, and lower face to slim the area and improve chin and jawline contours. Your neck liposuction procedure will be customized to fit your own unique needs and aesthetic goals.

Neck Liposuction Preparation

Dr. Quereshy will begin to ready you for neck liposuction and provide you with aftercare instructions and necessary prescriptions well in advance so you feel relaxed and prepared for your procedure. If you smoke or use other tobacco products, you will be required to quit using them at least six weeks before neck liposuction.

Two weeks before and after surgery, you will be directed to discontinue taking medications and supplements that can thin the blood, such as ibuprofen, aspirin and vitamin E.

Abstain from alcohol for one week before neck liposuction, and do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. Let Dr. Quereshy know if you notice any signs of infection or illness prior to neck liposuction, as it is imperative you be in good health before undergoing surgery.

Dress comfortably the day of surgery, and do not wear makeup, jewelry, other metal items or contact lenses, but do bring glasses to help you read necessary paperwork.

Neck Liposuction Surgery

During your neck liposuction procedure, most patients require only sedation anesthesia, however general anesthesia may also be used, especially if you are combining cosmetic surgery procedures. After cleansing the treatment area, Dr. Quereshy will place inconspicuous incisions on each side of your neck or beneath your chin.

Fat cells are broken up using tumescent fluid or a laser device, such as is used with the Smart Lipo or other laser liposuction procedures. Stubborn fat deposits that cause a double chin appearance and diminish neck and lower face contours will be suctioned out using a small, thin tube called a cannula.

Neck liposuction surgery typically takes less than an hour, however if a neck lift or other cosmetic surgery procedure is performed simultaneously, the procedure will take longer.

Chin Liposuction Recovery and Results

A tight chin strap dressing will be used following chin liposuction surgery to help reduce swelling and must be worn continuously for a few days after surgery, then up to two weeks only at night. Patients may shower the day after surgery.

Take all prescribed antibiotics and pain medication as directed as well. No strenuous activity, including lifting or bending, and keep your head elevated for at least one week after chin liposuction.

Most patients return to work within 1-2 weeks, and Dr. Quereshy will monitor your healing progress and advise you when it is safe to return to normal activity and strenuous activity. During your chin liposuction recovery period, protect your incisions from sun exposure to avoid darkening your scars.

Bruising and swelling will gradually resolve over the next several weeks, and within about three months, your shapelier, slimmer neck contours will be apparent. Keep in mind it may take several more weeks to months for all swelling to completely resolve, as is true with any liposuction procedure.
