Xeomin
Cleveland cosmetic surgeon Dr. Faisal Quereshy offers treatments of Xeomin to treat lines between the brows. These wrinkles, also known as glabellar lines, can make you appear tired and aged. By smoothing the skin, you can appear younger, rested and more vivacious.
In addition to the FDA-approved treatment for brow lines, Dr. Quereshy may choose to use Xeomin for the treatment of:
- crow's feet
- forehead lines
Preparing for Xeomin Treatment
Before you can undergo any kind of injectable treatment, you will need a brief consultation. In this consultation, Dr. Quereshy will examine the lines on your face and ask you about your goals. Based on this assessment, he will be able to create a treatment plan. During this time, we will explain how Xeomin is used to treat wrinkles, and will detail any aftercare steps or possible side effects.
Xeomin Treatment
Your face will first be cleansed prior to the procedure. For your Xeomin treatment, no anesthetic is necessary, though a topical option may be available for patients who are nervous about discomfort. In some cases, an ice pack may be offered to cool the skin.
Using a special technique, Dr. Quereshy will inject a specific amount of Xeomin into the muscle beneath the brow line. The solution contains botulinum toxin, which limits the contraction of the muscle, allowing the skin to smooth out. You will likely not experience any immediate correction of the wrinkle, though the area may feel taut or overly full from the solution.
Xeomin vs. Botox and Dysport
Like Xeomin, Botox and Dysport also contain botulinum toxin, though they cannot be used interchangeably. While it is true that the shared active ingredient limits muscle contraction to smooth wrinkles over time, each injectable treatment contains it in different doses. A dose that may work for one type of wrinkle may not behave the same way with a different product.
Because of these differences, Dr. Quereshy cannot freely alternate between the treatments. Using his keen aesthetic eye and surgical skill, Dr. Quereshy will be able to make decisions and recommendations about the best botulinum toxin-based injectable for your unique needs.
Xeomin Side Effects
The most common side effects from Xeomin are swelling and redness, though these are usually short-lived and dissipate within a day or two. Other possible side effects can include headaches or some difficulty swallowing. Please let Dr. Quereshy know if any side effect worsens or does not subside within 48 hours.
Xeomin Recovery and Results
When you leave Dr. Quereshy's office following your Xeomin treatment, you will need to adhere to the aftercare instructions he outlined for you. He will ask you to limit your activity for several hours and avoid alcohol during this time. You should also remain upright for about six hours following treatment for an ideal result.
Though you may not experience an immediate wrinkle correction, you will be able to see the benefits of Xeomin over a period of time. In clinical trials, patients who underwent Xeomin treatments for brow lines experienced a significant improvement in the appearance of the wrinkles 30 days after treatment. You may, however, see the wrinkle-smoothing sooner than that.
The benefits of Xeomin can be long-lasting and, as the effects wear off over time, you may wish to return to Dr. Quereshy's practice for follow-up treatments.
