Cleveland cosmetic surgeon Dr. Faisal Quereshy recommends laser liposuction to patients with the following cosmetic concerns:
Dr. Quereshy will begin to ready you for laser liposuction and provide you with aftercare instructions and necessary prescriptions well in advance so you feel comfortable and prepared for your procedure. If you smoke or use other tobacco products, you will be required to quit using them at least six weeks before laser liposuction.
Two weeks before and after surgery, you will be directed to discontinue taking medications and supplements that can thin the blood, such as ibuprofen, aspirin and vitamin E.
Abstain from alcohol for one week before laser liposuction, and do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. Let Dr. Quereshy know if you notice any signs of infection or illness prior to laser liposuction surgery, as it is imperative you be in good health before undergoing surgery of any kind.
Dress comfortably the day of surgery, and do not wear makeup, nail polish, jewelry, other metal items or contact lenses, but do bring glasses to help you read necessary paperwork. Tampon use is also prohibited the day of surgery if laser liposuction is being performed on your abdominal area.
The price of laser liposuction varies depending on the number of areas you wish to have treated. Please check our specials page for current specials on laser lipo.
During laser lipo surgery, most patients require only sedation anesthesia, however general anesthesia may also be used, especially if you are treating multiple areas, removing a large volume of fat or having additional cosmetic surgery procedures simultaneously. After cleansing incision sites, Dr. Quereshy will place inconspicuous incisions in the problem areas being treated.
Fat cells are targeted and broken up using a laser device, such as the Smart Lipo platform, before being suctioned out through a small, thin tube called a cannula. Laser liposuction is suitable for any body area that can be treated with traditional liposuction surgery, such as the back, hips, thighs, belly, buttocks and arms. Laser liposuction can also be used to perform chin liposuction.
Laser lipo is different from traditional liposuction in that the laser device used to melt fat also helps your skin shrink and contract to fit your new shape after fat removal is complete. This makes laser lipo an ideal treatment for patients with who need a little extra skin tightening after liposuction, but not enough to warrant excess skin excision. Laser lipo also usually requires a shorter recovery period than traditional liposuction.
If only one or two areas are being treated with laser lipo, the procedure typically takes 1-2 hours. However if tummy tuck surgery, male breast reduction or other cosmetic surgery procedures are performed simultaneously, the procedure will take longer.
Take all prescribed antibiotics and pain medication as directed, and be sure to start moving around as much as you are comfortable the day after your procedure. Dr. Quereshy will advise you when it is safe to return to normal and strenuous activity, however most patients return to work and normal activity within one week.
A compression garment will be used following laser liposuction surgery to help reduce swelling, promote skin contraction and smooth results. During laser liposuction recovery, patients are usually encouraged to wear the garment for 3-6 weeks except when showering. Patients may shower 1-2 days after laser liposuction, following the first follow-up visit and dressing change.
During your laser lipo recovery period, be careful to protect your incisions from sun exposure to avoid darkening your scars.
Bruising and swelling will gradually resolve over the next few weeks, and within about three months, your improved body contours will be visible. Keep in mind it may take several more weeks to months for all swelling to completely resolve, as is true with traditional body liposuction or chin liposuction.
