Cheek Augmentation

If you are shy or self-conscious about the look of your cheeks, you may be right for a cheek augmentation procedure with Dr. Quereshy. Cheek augmentation is a facial surgery that helps to improve the appearance of gaunt, sunken cheeks, poor cheekbone definition, or asymmetrical cheek contours. Dr. Quereshy can help to enhance your facial appearance with results that look as natural as they do beautiful.

Preparing for Cheek Augmentation

Depending on whether you are having cheek implants or cheek injections, your cheek augmentation preparation instructions will vary.

In general, Dr. Quereshy will have you start preparing for your cheek augmentation in Medina, OH and provide you with aftercare instructions well in advance to ensure you feel comfortable and ready for your procedure. If you smoke or use other tobacco products, you will be required to quit using them at least six weeks before undergoing cheek augmentation.

Two weeks before your cheek augmentation procedure, you will be directed to discontinue taking medications and supplements that can thin the blood, such as ibuprofen, aspirin and vitamin E. Additionally, you will be instructed to abstain from alcohol for one week prior to receiving cheek implants or injections.

Cheek Implants

Cheek implant surgery requires general or sedation anesthesia. Dr. Quereshy inserts synthetic cheek implants into your mid-face using incisions hidden inside your mouth. Sometimes, the pocket created within the cheek will hold your implants in place, whereas other times, screw or sutures may be needed to fix the implants.

Incisions are closed with dissolvable or removable sutures, and the procedure takes about 1-2 hours.

Cheek Injections

If you seek cheek injections to enhance or augment your mid-face, Dr. Quereshy will likely recommend Sculptra or Radiesse for longer-lasting results. Juvederm and Restylane may also be used for cheek injections, however the results will only last 6-12 months maximum.

Cheek injections typically take less than 30 minutes to administer, although a series of treatments may be needed to achieve optimal correction.

Cheek Augmentation Results and Recovery

If you undergo cheek implant surgery, your recovery period will be more extensive than with cheek injections, which require little to no downtime. Following cheek implant surgery, you may shower after your first follow-up appointment, which typically occurs the morning after your cheek augmentation, however you must wait three days to brush your teeth.

Use oral rinses, care for your incision sites and take all medications as directed. Expect temporary swelling and bruising, which should begin to subside within 1-2 weeks, and keep your head elevated to minimize swelling for at least one week. You will need to avoid dairy products for about a week, as well as lifting and bending.

You may return to work immediately after cheek injections, however cheek implant surgery will require 1-2 weeks off work. Dr. Quereshy will advise you when it safe to resume normal activity and strenuous activity, depending on your healing progress.

Cheek injection results are seen immediately after treatment and continue to improve over the next several months, whereas the permanent results of cheek implant surgery take several weeks to months to fully take shape.
