GentleWave® Root Canal Treatment
Most people think of a root canal as a painful, unpleasant procedure they try to avoid at all costs. However, root canal treatment is often the only way to save a tooth that is severely damaged or decayed once the tooth’s pulp is infected. Fortunately, new GentleWave® technology allows us to perform root canals simply and effectively without pain or the risk of reinfection of the tooth.
How the GentleWave® Ultracleaning Procedure Works
GentleWave makes it easier to reach deep into the canals and clean porous surfaces and tiny, hard-to-reach areas. Traditional root canal cleaning can leave biofilm behind, which can cause reinfection of the channels weeks later. Using GentleWave, we can completely remove biofilm without retreating the tooth. There is no need to use files to scrape away debris and bacteria in the tooth’s canals.
GentleWave technology combines sterile cleaning fluids with acoustic energy waves to clean the root canals thoroughly. During the procedure, ultrasonic waves loosen the debris and bacteria in the root canal system. The fluids then lift and flush the particles and bacteria out of the tooth, where they are vacuumed away.
Benefits of GentleWave® Ultracleaning Procedure
- Less chance of reinfection due to superior cleaning.
- More comfortable for patients because smaller files are used in the deepest areas of the tooth
- One procedure is all that is needed, while traditional root canals usually require two visits.
- The roots of the tooth are left intact with less disruption.
- The combination of fluids and multi-sonic waves provides a deeper clean than dental files.
GentleWave® FAQs
What does Multisonic mean?
GentleWave uses multi-sonic technology for exceptional cleaning. Unlike ultrasound, which uses a single wavelength, multi-sonic ultra-cleaning uses multiple frequencies simultaneously and in combination with special fluids. This approach results in an exceptional level of cleaning that greatly reduces the risk of reinfection.
Is the GentleWave root canal safe?
Yes! Over a million patients have had GentleWave root canals. The results are overwhelmingly positive, and patients report minimal pain during and after the procedure. GentleWave is safer than a standard root canal, with less chance of reinfection.
How long does the GentleWave root canal take?
It can usually be completed in one visit lasting an hour or less.
Does insurance cover GentleWave® treatment?
For the most part, insurance companies still consider multi-sonic root canals “non-traditional” and may not cover the expense. However, this is changing. Be sure to check with your insurance representative to determine your coverage limits.
How successful are multi-sonic ultra-cleaning root canals?
The success rate is over 97%, making it as successful as more traditional root canal procedures, but with less pain and less chance of reinfection.
