What are the best strategies for skin care this fall? A recent segment on the Today Show highlighted some of the tips that you should follow to keep yourself looking great and feeling healthy as we leave summer behind. Dr. Anne Chapas, one of the guests on the program, also discussed some of the benefits of SkinMedica Dermal Repair, which she recommended for its ability to repair the sun damage of summer.
Autumn Skin Care Tips
Even though summer is over, don’t forget the sunscreen! Many people forget about sunscreen as soon as the hot days of summer are over. But sunscreen is one of the most powerful weapons against aging. “That’s the most important thing to remember,” Dr. Chapas says, “because even though fall is just around the corner, sun damage happens year-round. So it’s important to wear an SPF 30 or higher. Every single day.”
Always check your body for moles. “I find what happens in the fall is that a lot of people notice things changing over the summer. Actually, anything changing in a mole… has been shown to be one of the most important signs in whether that mole is becoming cancerous.” Dr. Chapas recommends keeping an eye out for ABCD:
- Asymmetry (one side of the mole is different than the other side)
- Border (hazy or shady border)
- Color (more than one color or darkening)
- Diameter (any mole larger than a pencil eraser is cause for concern)
Treat your summer sun damage. Dr. Chapas recommends using a product with vitamin A. By using SkinMedica Dermal Repair, you can treat fine lines and wrinkles, as well as discoloration. Alternatively, you may wish to consider a light-based treatment, such as IPL photofacial.
